I have dwelt too long
with those who hate peace.
I am for peace; but when I speak,
they are for war.
This is the first of the Psalms of Ascent. The Psalmist is on the way to worship. Ready to be in the Lord’s house – to celebrate the goodness of God.
It’s not out of the stretch of my imagination, then, that I see the Psalmist evaluating where he is as he starts his journey.
With people whose values are different, who love war instead of peace. Indeed, they hate the peace he loves.
This seems so familiar to me. I feel surrounded by people who want discord, anger, pain, to rule the day. Not peace.
Lord, I must come to you – Source of peace!
